About l'antipasto

Alfonso Cretella was born in Amalfi on the west coast of Italy in the 1940s. From a young age he set his sights high and at only 11 years old he left the Amalfi Coast, alone, to move to Rome and started work in a restaurant there.

Alfonso wanted to explore the world further and the bright lights of London drew him in while he was in his early 20's. He moved to London in 1969, worked in a number of restaurants and then started to open his own Italian restaurants. He made sure to stay true to his Amalfi roots by providing fresh produce, which was cooked well and with hearty Italian portions.

L'Antipasto opened in 1984 and has continued to be a family run Italian restaurant for over 30 years now. Alfonso has recently handed the baton over to his son, Alessandro who is ensuring the Cretella traditions are upheld!

L'Antipasto prides itself on being a friendly restaurant with traditional, tasty Italian food and excellent customer service. All of the chefs and waiters have been there for over 15 years and some, including the head chef, since the restaurant opened to the public in 1984. It is an institution and a pillar of the SW11 community and we are certain you'll thoroughly enjoy your dining experience with us at L'Antipasto.

“Our no. 1 destination for chilled weeknights with friends.
This place is legendary. A lot of people who come here have been coming for literally years! The staff are it’s very best asset — they are utterly delightful, welcoming and attentive. The delicious pasta and Italian classic cuisine are also excellent, with generous portions and big flavours—you always feel the ingredients are lovely and fresh, and everything tastes like it was made that day.”

“Always a Fun Place to eat out. Fantastic value for money, attentive and friendly staff, substantial portions and always enjoyable. This is an unpretentious Italian restaurant which many Battersea locals have been going to for years. We always look forward to returning.”
